The Flint Hill Hat is quick to knit and deep winter warm. It features a simple cable and slip stitch design that diminishes to an attractive crown. An Alternating/Italian cast-on creates the professional finish of a tubular cast-on without the multiple rounds required to work it.

SIZE(S):
Hat fits an adult head size of approx 22” – 23.5” (55.9 cm – 59.7 cm). Unblocked, unstretched hat circumference approx 17.5” (44.5 cm). Unblocked hat height approx 9.25“ (23.5 cm). Additional sizes available by working more or fewer pattern stitch and/or round repeats.
CHARTED/WRITTEN:
The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.
GAUGE:
15 stitches/18 rounds to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in cable pattern stitch, unblocked, unstretched, on largest needles.
The hat is cast on using the Alternating/Italian cast-on and then worked in the round.
Pompon utilizes approx 9 yds (8.25 m) of yarn. Pompon yardage is included in yarn requirements listed above.
Hat features an attractive decrease and looks just as lovely without a pompon should you wish to forego this extra embellishment.
To work this pattern, you will need to know:
- Alternating/Italian cast-on
- Knit and purl stitches
- Slip stitches
- Cable stitches – 1/2RC
- Decrease stitches – CDD, SSK
YARN:
Allow approx 103 yds (94 m) bulky weight/light super bulky yarn. (Yardage INCLUDES pompon.)
Sample knit using (1) 3.5 oz/100 gr (112 yds/102 m) skein of Quince & Co Puffin 100% American wool in Sedum.

US 10 (6 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle or dpns
US 11 (8 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle or dpns
