One size. Finished, blocked shawl measures approximately 60” (152 cm) wide along top edge and 27” (69 cm) long at center.

The pattern is charted, with the first few rows written out to assist those new to charts in getting started. There are NOT complete written row by row instructions.
GAUGE:
17 stitches/32 rows to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in pattern stitch, blocked.
Shale Beach is a triangular shawl knit from the top down in three panels. With its straightforward design, this shawl lends itself to being a great project for novice lace knitters.
To work this pattern, you will need to know:
- Knit and purl stitches
- Slip stitches
- Increase and decrease stitches – YO, M1L, M1R, K2TOG, SSK, SL1 K2TOG PSSO
- Twisted stitches – KTBL
- Picking up stitches
YARN:
Our sample was knit double-stranded with approximately 1,320 yds (1,206 m) of luscious, Knit Picks Shimmer lace weight yarn to take advantage of the fiber content (70% Baby Alpaca, 30% Silk) and the splendid colorway, Blue Glass.
However, this pattern is equally suited to fingering weight yarn knit with a single strand. You will need approximately 660 yds (603 m) of fingering weight yarn.
NEEDLES:
US 6 (4 mm) 24” (61 cm) circular
Or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
