 Worked in Super Bulky yarn, Rifle Peak is swiftly knit and ready to wear in a few short hours. It features a simple half-drop allover cable pattern that results in an interesting, undulating textural pattern that couples well with the many tonal or solid hues available today in these heavier weight yarns.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.

SIZE(S):

 Hat fits an adult head size of approx 22” – 23.5” (55.9 cm – 59.7 cm). Unblocked, unstretched hat circumference approx 19” (48 cm). Unblocked hat height approx 8.25“ (20.95 cm). Additional sizes available by working more or fewer pattern stitch/row repeats.

CHARTED/WRITTEN:

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

GAUGE:

 10 sts/15 rnds to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in cable pattern stitch, unblocked, unstretched, on largest needles. Accurate gauge is EXTREMELY important with sts of this size.

Hat is cast on using the longtail cast-on and then worked in the round.

Pompon utilizes approx 9 yds (8.25 m) of yarn. Pompon yardage is included in yarn requirements listed above.

Hat features an attractive decrease and looks just as lovely without a pompon should you wish to forego this extra embellishment.

To work this pattern, you will need to know:

  • Longtail cast-on
  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Cable stitches – 1/1 RC
  • Decrease stitches – K2TOG

YARN:

Allow approx 90 yds (82 m) super bulky weight yarn. (Yardage INCLUDES pompon.)

Sample knit using (1) 5.3 oz/150 gr (90 yds/82 m) skein of Malabrigo Rasta 100% Merino wool in Indiecita.

NEEDLES:

 US 11 (8 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle or dpns
US 15 (10 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle or dpns
Or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.

NOTIONS:

Tapestry/blunt yarn needle
Clover blue (large) pompon maker or 3-3/8” (8.6 cm) piece of cardboard
